Painters may make fine art paintings on a variety of surfaces. For a long time, wood arts panels and canvas stretched on wood stretcher bars have been used. Because wood is tougher and lasts longer than canvas or linen cloth, it is more archival. Contemporary painting techniques such as pouring paint and gluing collage-style elements are made easier with a stable flat surface like wood.
In order to create long-lasting artwork, an artist’s support must be well-prepared. Raw wood panels must be sealed before priming and painting to prevent moisture from getting to the wood and causing warping and other damage. So, once you’ve bought a wood panel, you’ll need to seal it to keep moisture out and prime it to promote adhesion between the paint and the wood panel before painting it.
